Hospitality Case Study – Enhancing the guest experience

Marriott Hotel Function Room - PAI

Client Overview

Overlooking Swansea Bay and Marina, the Marriott is a luxurious four-star hotel in a picturesque yet central location. Along with stunning views, the building boasts 119 rooms and six function rooms suitable for conferences, meetings and weddings.

Project Brief

The Marriott Hotel, Swansea’s largest event room, the Gower Suite, can be conveniently split into three smaller spaces, while offering its own conservatory bar and being capable of housing up to 300 guests. Having undergone a refurbishment, PAI, in conjunction with Charnic Interiors, was appointed directly by the hotel to provide audio-visual, sound and lighting solutions to the venue’s multi-functional hospitality area.

Technical Solutions

The Marriott Hotel, Swansea sought a cost-effective and simple-to-use solution that could be utilised for the venue as a whole, or independently when the Gower Suite was to be partitioned. To ensure that the function room could effectively cater for one large event or three separate events at once, there was a need to install systems into each of the partitioned areas. As such, the planning process saw the PAI team carefully consider the positioning and placement of the equipment, in addition to the specification of products that would meet the hotel’s exact requirements.

To work with the flexibility of the Gower Suite, PAI’s AV scheme incorporated projectors, retractable electric screens, six button control systems and laptop/DVD connection points. Optoma projectors were selected, as they fit the specific budgetary and technical requirements. The model chosen offered the high-quality image performance that was desired and the projectors were easily mountable at ceiling level to avoid unwanted tampering and easy concealment when not in use. Adaptable and intuitive, the equipment provided by PAI could be be operated together or independently as required.

To provide comprehensive, user-friendly control of the numerous inputs in the suite a TOA M9000 digital mixer was selected. In addition, TOA ceiling loudspeakers, powered by a Cloud multi-channel amplifier, were installed to offer even coverage throughout the Gower Suite.

An Anytronics Anylight system was chosen to control the lighting, offering variations to suit the ambience and mood of each event. Dimming packs, to assist with energy saving, were also installed with digital dimming for the new light fittings.

All local input connection points were cabled to a matrix system within the manager’s office, enabling the display media to be delivered to any format and combination of screens. As an effective feature when used in full room mode, the two outer screens were set to display one presentation, with different media displayed on the centre screen.

Outcome

The project proved to be a great success and ensured that the hotel could subsequently utilise the Gower Suite for a wide range of small and large events.

PAI ensured that the popular hospitality venue on Swansea’s waterfront benefitted from cost-effective, flexible and easy-to-use integrated control for its audio-visual, sound and lighting facilities. The intuitiveness and performance of the systems are key features that have been enjoyed by staff and guests alike since the project’s completion.

Comment

“I’m delighted with the flexibility of the multimedia presentation systems and the intuitiveness of the AMX control interface. Even the most non-technical staff will have no trouble in setting up the function suites for any occasion.” – Anthony Brunton, Chief Engineer, Marriott Hotel (Swansea)
