The Beacon is operated by Carmarthenshire County Council and leased from the Welsh Government, owners of the building and the land it sits on just two miles outside the region’s largest town. It provides a base for HE and FE training providers, whilst serving key Welsh economy growth sectors such as Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Environmental, ICT, and Media. The venue boasts a Conference Room, which caters for up to 60 people, plus three separate meeting rooms and adjoining office and industrial work space used by local businesses.
Vaughan Sound was appointed by Jamie Reynolds, Business Development Officer for the Economic Development Division of Carmarthenshire County Council. We were tasked with specifying, installing and commissioning a new collaborative solution for The Beacon’s audio-visual presentation and video conferencing requirements.
The modern, open plan environment with glass walls created several technical challenges for our team. To overcome the high levels of ambient light, Vaughan Sound installed a wall mounted 2×2 video wall, made up of four Samsung UD55, super-narrow bezel display monitors, ensuring that the visual display for presentations and video conferencing is crystal clear. Offering high brightness and superb colour contrast, these screens are built for 24/7 use and come with a three-year manufacturer warranty as standard.
The video wall has been combined with wireless presentation solutions from wePresent, allowing up to 64 users to collaborate and deliver a wireless interactive, full 1080p resolution presentation from their Windows or Macintosh laptop, smartphone or tablet device.
For video conferencing, Vaughan Sound installed a Polycom system; including codec, EagleEye camera and 12 months’ technical support and access to software updates and upgrades. Speech capture is delivered by a Revolabs FUSION eight-channel system processor, with eight solo wireless desk microphones provided. Sound reinforcement comes via a TEAC power amplifier and a pair of EVID 6.2 cabinet loudspeakers.
The entire system is managed by an iPad Air with custom GUI, which is mounted on a lectern and combined with a Crestron MPC-10 controller to deliver simple, intuitive command and operation. Hardware is concealed within a rack mount cabinet with lockable door – providing a clean, tidy and secure solution.
“I found the entire service from start to finish highly professional and competent – I’m delighted with the end result too.” – Jamie Reynolds, Carmarthenshire County Council
